Following the press conference held by the Supervisor of Elections [“SoE”] this morning at the Fijian Elections Office [“FEO”], a report has been lodged with the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption by the SoE against the person claiming to be Biu Solia, who also claims to have been an election official in the 2018 General Election and made various allegations in relation to polling, results and counting.
The SoE this morning highlighted that the said person did not work for the FEO at the said polling station and there was no record of the same person having been employed by the FEO in 2018. Such a claim is in breach of Section 142 (c) of the Electoral Act, 2014.
“It appears to be a case of impersonation of an election official simply to discredit the work of the thousands of people who worked in the election and especially the work done by the Presiding Officers on the ground,” the SoE said.
“The FEO will not take such behaviour lightly and we hope the person is caught and brought before the law.”
