General Election

Information on past elections

Since the introduction of the 2013 Constitution, the Fijian Elections Office has successfully conducted three General Elections in 2014, 2018, and 2022—each representing key milestones in Fiji’s democratic development. The 2014 General Election, the first under the 2013 Constitution, introduced a nationwide electronic voter registration system that set a new benchmark for electoral transparency. In 2018, the FEO advanced its operations through enhanced voter services and the introduction of digital engagement platforms. By 2022, the FEO had further strengthened electoral integrity with robust voter verification measures, improved accessibility for persons with disabilities, and expanded international observation. Throughout all three elections, the FEO upheld its commitment to professionalism, inclusivity, and impartiality, delivering credible elections aligned with Fiji’s legal framework and international best practices. Fiji uses an open list proportional representation electoral system. Voter turnout has gradually declined over the three election cycles, 84.6% in 2014, 71.9% in 2018, and 68.3% in 2022, highlighting the continued importance of voter engagement and education efforts.
